The greatness of obvious gifts and blessings are that they are out of the ordinary, extra, special.

The greatness of hardship and pain is that they offer the opportunity for ordinary to become a blessing as well.

How many times have I appreciated my health more after a cold, cleaning help more, after they canceled, washing machine more, after it broke, etc….

And these are “small” hardships”

What if my intention was to recognize the ordinary as miraculous in the first place?

To consciously appreciate and take in the day to day regular things that are already here?

How might that enhance my sense of abundance? My gratitude? My sense of peace and security?

Wanna join me?
What are three ordinary things you are grateful for right now?

The Jewish holiday of shavuos is coming up. When G-D gave the Jewish people the Torah on a mountain. But he chose Har Sinai- the smallest mountain “the humble one” to teach us the importance of humility.

What if I treated myself as a guest in my own house, instead of the hostess?

It’s not about what I do.
It’s about how and why I do it.

It’ll all get done somehow regardless,
But how do I want to feel before, during and after?

Can I show up because of me, instead of because of everyone else?

Can I cook, clean, talk, and relax because I WANT to have this experience of family, I CHOOSE to add in responsibilities because I WANT to have this time together.

My intention is to reset my thoughts from “what needs to get done” to “what do I want to do?”

To borrow from this week’s podcast- peel myself off the to-do list.

I choose to enjoy the weekend. I choose to be one of the people there, not just the invisible, stressed, busy hostess.

And I’m excited!! #nha #parenting #thanksgiving #enjoyvacation

You know the expression “I fell of the bandwagon”?

Imagine how absurd it would be if any time someone falls off the wagon they somehow landed back at the start of the journey, and had to begin the travels all over again?

It just doesn’t work that way.

Wherever I fell off, that’s where I’ll stay till I get the courage and strength to stand back up, brush off the dust, and climb back up on the wagon.

Lots of times my house runs the way I want it to. My parenting is something I’m proud of. My family feels like a blessing and all is well.

And then there I times when I feel like I’ve fallen off the bandwagon and everything is just chaos and disaster. I just don’t have it in me to smile or connect.

But you know what? My family isn’t chaos and disaster.

All of those good times- they happened, and they still exist. I’m this far down the road, and everything I’ve traveled doesn’t disappear just cuz I fell off.

So when I’m ready to dust myself off and get back on again, I’m not building connection from scratch.

Once I can reset and access my heart, the love and connection is all still there, and I get to continue right where I left off.

Naturally life is made up of time-in’s and time-out’s of relationship.

Wether it’s schedule in and outs like
- school
- work
- events

or routine in and outs like
- house work
- personal hygiene
- food prep

or even emotional and mental in and outs like
- exhaustion
- hormonal changes
- mental health challenges

And it’s not good or bad, it’s just neutral. It’s reality.

The together times build safety and security, and the apart times build resilience and independence.

I don’t need to focus on changing any of that.

What I do want to focus on though, is what types of thing turn a relational “time-out” into a relational “time-in”.

For most of us, naturally it would be problems, challenges, hard things.

How often do I hear crying and run to ask “what’s wrong”?

How often do I hear laughter and run to ask “what’s funny?”

How often do I ask my kid why they are sad?

How often do I ask my kid why they are happy?

I’m working on interrupting expected time-outs for connection over what’s going right.

And I’m working on leaning in with curiosity about why people feel “good” “happy” or “ok” the same way I would if they felt “bad” “sad” or “mad”.

❤️Mussi Diskin

Ps. how fun that bad sad and mad rhyme 😂

Kids try out behaviours to see if they serve a useful purpose.

Ask: How is my response to their behaviour serving them?
Is what they receive from me in that moment inline with the values I’d like to teach?

For example:
Behaviour choice 1: Mom is working in her home office, I am polite, quiet and respectful and don’t interrupt.
What do I receive? Nothing. I am “invisible”.

Behaviour choice 2: Mom is working in her home office. I holler and fight with my brother right outside her door.
What do I receive? Relationship! Mom comes out to reprimand to me, OR stops work to entertain me. I have been “SEEN”.

Examining our reaction to behaviour and the inadvertent rewards we give, is often more enlightening than examining the behaviour itself. #parenting

What if there were no failures in life, only lessons?

What if when making a choice that is hard, the outlook was to make a choice and learn from it vs. right and wrong?

How might it impact my parenting if I allowed myself the grace of knowing life is about growing and learning, and that process and progress is not always linear?

How might it impact my energetic reaction to behavior if I saw my children in the same way?

Maybe acting out of line is an opportunity to feel and internalize what my lines really are?

Maybe feeling the discomfort of stepping out of my values helps to solidify my commitment to them?

What if I emphasized controlling my own reactions to my children vs controlling my children, in the hope of them experiencing reactions and consequences that are aligned with the truth of my values and integrity?

Maybe every “acting out” is one step closer to a fuller, more internalized, empowered “right” choice.

Reminder: It’s not the child’s behavior the defines good parenting, it’s the parent’s.

Let others judge all they want. We have gorgeous families, and are unbelievably loving and dedicated parents.

Our intense kiddos are gonna be however their big strong willed, independent, selves decide to present themselves, but we get to turn inward and give ourself hugs through it if we want to.
That’s the only real advice I have for all parents - make it about taking care of you yourself and making sure you are ok- not them. They’re much more OK than we think.

When I can close me eyes and breath deeply, into my heart, I can ask myself, what is my truth? Who am I? What do I really want for my kids and my relationships?

The answers I find in that space are usually emotionally charged and extremely touching and deep.

It’s just the energetic resources I need to refocus and get mobilized to live out my intentions.

Try it, you have all you need, right inside your heart.

My share for today is that I ate breakfast way too late.
All of a sudden nothing was fine.
I was in tears, I felt desperate, like everything in my life was falling apart. Like the world was spinning and everything was falling.
I felt so NOT ok!
And then I got clear. I NEED to EAT!
I let the baby cry.
I cried as I made my food and I gobbled it down.

My life isn’t over. My world is calm and ok. I’ve got this.

And all I needed was breakfast.

Here’s your reminder- what does your body need? Cuz beleive me, if your body needs it, everybody else needs you to have it too!
